New Porsche Cayenne
Earlier this week (Tuesday 18th of April) Porsche unveiled an overhaul of the third generation of the Cayenne.
“More Luxury, More Performance”
Michael Schätzle, Vice President Product Line Cayenne, described the upgrades as “One of the most extensive product upgrades in the history of Porsche”.
Engine
The Cayenne S has swapped from V6 to V8 with a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre which accelerates both the SUV and SUV Coupé to 60mph in 4.7 seconds and reaches a top speed of 170 mph. The entry-level Cayenne comes with an optimised three-litre V6 turbo engine which reaches a top speed of 154mph and 0-60 mph in 5.7 seconds.
The six-cylinder engine forms the basis for the Cayenne E-Hybrid which has been combined with a new electric motor. An increase in the battery capacity from 17.9kWh to 25.9kWh means a purely electric range according to the WLTP of up to 60 miles depending on equipment level. A new 11kW onboard charger now shortens charging time.
Technology
The new Porsche Driver Experience, first introduced on the Taycan, which focuses on the drivers’ axis and optimises operation has been included. Functions that drivers use frequently are located directly on or next to the steering wheel. The automatic transmission selector has been moved to the dashboard making room in the new centre console for storage and an air conditioning controller.
The cockpit now includes a fully digital 12.6-inch curved free-standing instrument cluster. The central display is a 12.3-inch high resolution display where the driver can operate numerous driving and comfort functions as well as online navigation and multimedia functions. There is also the option of a 10.9-inch passenger display which allows the passenger to take control of navigation or selecting media services. A special foil covers the display ensuring it cannot distract the driver.
Design
On the outside of the Cayenne is a new front end, more strongly arched wings, a new bonnet and new headlights, Matrix LED as standard. A new rear apron with an integrated number plate holder, a three-dimensionally designed tail light finish the rear. The new Cayenne features an expanded colour palette and an extensive range of 20, 21 and 22-inch wheels, giving you even more options to personalise your Cayenne.
